Clip art
I tend to think of myself as a creative person. When I have free time with my daughter, I try to get her involved in different types of crafts. One thing we like doing is printing out Free Clip Art for Kids and making collages with them. My daughter enjoys putting the clip art together to make stories with her pictures.
We also enjoy printing out pages for her to color. Instead of buying a book with set pictures, she can make her own book with whatever pictures she wants. If she wants a book with the planets of the solar system mixed with pages of music, we can do that. We are only limited by what her imagination comes up with.
Now that my daughter is learning how to read, she adores word puzzles. Specifically, she loves word searches. She can find the letters she needs to spell the words in her list and it helps her work on her vocabulary at the same time. As she spells the word, we try to sound it out together so she'll know how to read it by herself. When she gets into first grade, I imagine that she will have a wider vocabulary than most of the other kids in her class.
It makes me happy when we can do these sorts of things together. Not only are we bonding but she is learning and using her imagination at the same time. How many other activities can do that?
